Following the news that Sydney will host WorldPride 2023, POOF DOOF Sydney is the latest progression in Merivale's plans to help reinvigorate Sydney's status as a world-class and fully-inclusive metropolis.
Taking over the Courtyard, Terrace and Den every Saturday night from 23 November, POOF DOOF Sydney will transform Ivy into a fierce, fabulous and forward-thinking funhouse of dance.
Director Anthony Hocking conjured up POOF DOOF in 2011, and has since nurtured the event into the biggest night club of its kind in Australia.
Serving queer sonic realness over multiple spaces throughout the venue, POOF DOOF will showcase a mix of future-forward house and techno. Alternatively, the side room Snap Crackle Pop will be blasting iconic queer pop hits from the 80's, 90's, 00's and today. The launch party on 23 November will feature POOF DOOF’s Melbourne residents Argonaut and drag DJ duo Jawbreakers alongside local legends Sveta, James Alexander and Charlie Villa.
“Queer culture is the heart and soul of all great, progressive cities around the world,” Justin Hemmes, CEO of Merivale, says. “We are thrilled to partner with trailblazing gay club pioneers and together usher in a new era for Saturday nights at Ivy. I can’t wait to see the CBD come alive with the bright lights and big energy of POOF DOOF Sydney.”
