Sydney Symphony Orchestra’s Disco Never Dies – Kween Kong Lists 5 Iconic Disco Classics

It’s time to turn up the heat. . . Sydney Symphony Orchestra is kicking off 2026 in style, with ‘Disco Never Dies’.

Kween Kong

After the rave reviews and spectacular proceedings of the 2025 event, Hordern Pavilion will come alive once more, transforming into a full-scale boogie wonderland complete with mirrorballs, sequins, and high-voltage energy.

‘RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under’ and ‘Drag Race Global All Stars’ icon Kween Kong and singer/actor Jesse Dutlow (‘RENT’, ‘& Juliet’) will join in the celebrations, alongside a stellar line-up of Australian vocal talents like pop sensation Paulini, acclaimed Indigenous singer-songwriter Emma Donovan, and genre-defying Indigenous artist Jess Hitchcock.

Together, this talented group of performers will bring disco anthems like ‘I Love The Night Life’, ‘That’s The Way (I Like It)’, ‘Don’t Leave Me This Way’, ‘It’s Raining Men’ and many more to the stage, capturing the unshakable joy of disco and accompanied by the symphonic edge of Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

Here, drag superstar and the night's host Kween Kong aptly lists five iconic disco classics, ahead of the show.

One

Kylie Minogue - 'Your Disco Needs You'. Our gay Aussie icon will always be #1 for this banger.

Two

Donna Summa - 'Bad Girls'/'Hot Stuff'/'I Feel Love'. Donna Summa is undoubtedly the queen of disco and her tracks are staples in the drag scene.

Three

Gloria Gaynor - 'I Will Survive'. . . She said she'd survive and honey, she did not lie. This track has been a queer anthem for generations.

Four

Earth, Wind And Fire - 'Boogie Wonderland'. This track was my nana's favourite song and she'd play it loud on Saturday mornings to get my gay ass out of bed to clean the house.

Five

Tina Turner's version of 'Disco Inferno'. My queen dabbled in her disco era and gave the gays what we deserve. Her vocals are so fun to lip sync too, so much nuance and things to play with!
